There are very few artists who have such a unique voice that you immediately recognize them among thousands after just one note. Dutch singer Davina Michelle has this special talent, but she is more than just “that voice”.
Davina Michelle was born in 1995 and her real name is Michelle Davina Hoogendoorn. She came into the spotlight via her YouTube channel, which was launched in 2016 and now has almost 1.5 million subscribers. Her performance of the P!NK classic “What About Us” (over 20 million views) went viral and became legendary. “Now I know what it should sound like,” P!NK commented. A US tour followed. In 2018, she participated in the famous Dutch television show “Beste Zangers” and spent eleven weeks at No. 1 on the charts, with five-times platinum status. Several music awards followed, culminating in 2019 with her first Edison Award for “Best New Artist”. In August 2019, she performed as a support act for P!NK in front of 50,000 people in The Hague, Netherlands.
She then released singles such as “Skyward,” “Better Now,” “Beat Me “* (*written for the F1 Grand Prix in Zandvoort) and “my own world,” which became platinum and gold hits. This was the prelude to her debut album “my own world” released in August 2020, which was awarded a gold status. To her own surprise, she was awarded the second Edison Award for “Best Pop Artist” and the Dutch Radio Q Music Award for “Best Live Act” in late 2020. In the Corona lockdown, she sang an emotional version of “17 Miljoen Mensen” (17 Million People) in the empty Ahoy in Rotterdam, one of the largest event halls in the Netherlands – which quickly became her third No. 1 hit. At the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, she sang “Sweet Water” during the intermission in front of 183 million viewers. After winning her third Edison for “Best Pop Artist” in 2021, she completely sold out Ahoy for her “HYPER” shows in May 2022. She has since turned her attention to Belgium and Germany, where she hopes to expand her career. Davina Michelle is ready for the world.
